CR Alumni: Rick Davis got his start as a College Republican

By sage of monticello | July 28, 2007

Its true.

New McCain campaign manager Rick Davis got his start in politics as a College Republican in Alabama back when the AL Republican Party was more a gathering than a party…

The new campaign manager trying to salvage John McCain’s Republican presidential bid got his early education in politics in Alabama when it was an overwhelmingly Democratic state.

Davis said he spent his last three years at the Univsity of Alabama as the state leader of College Republicans. That post got him a seat on the State Republican Executive Committee in the days when its meetings were very small.

The College Republicans post…got Davis involved in state campaigns, including serving as youth chairman for Republican Guy Hunt’s first campaign for governor in 1978.

When not studying politics, Davis said his other college interests included “sororities, beer and football.”
