Gingrich: “We are in trouble”

By sage of monticello | August 9, 2007

In a speech to the National Press Club, Newt Gingrich said:

In less than four years we defeated Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan. Today it takes 23 years to add a fifth runaway to the Atlanta airport

(why is that Esther?)

Toward the end of the taped speech, Gingrinch makes a good point concerning civil liberties, namely that the state of civil liberties is best preserved by fighting our enemies in an effort to prevent a catastrophic terrorist attack which potentially could serve to justify self-imposed policies ruthless toward our civil liberties in the minds of polticians and the general public.

All in all the point Gingrich was trying to make is that we need to win the War on Terror to preserve our civil liberties and to do that we need to “get serious about it.” Otherwise, we will be in trouble.

For some reason I wasn’t invited to join the Atlanta Hartsfield Planning Committee, so I’m afraid I can’t answer your question. Maybe next time!
