Cutting Taxes: Good Philosophy, Good Policy, Good Strategy
By sage of monticello | August 10, 2007
President Bush is rumored to be considering cutting corporate tax rates. On Bush’s part this is a smart move as it signals his willingness to move forward with another part of his domestic policy agenda. Not to mention, cutting taxes is good philosophy, good policy, and good strategy.
It is good philosophy for precisely the same reason that limited government is good philosophy: it reflects the strength of the individual and the right of the individual to enjoy the fullest fruit of his labors.
It is good policy for three reasons. First, cutting corporate tax rates will make U.S. Corporation more competitive abroad. Second, it will make the U.S. more attractive to foreign investment as more and more foreign corporations look to establish roots in the United States. And third, the savings corporations will experience as a result of lower taxes it will pass down to consumers in the form of lower prices.
Lastly, it is good strategy because taking a stand for fiscal responsibility, limited government, and lower taxes by picking a fight with the Democrats will start the process of galvanizing the disaffected Republican base heading into 2008.
Limited government and lower taxes is at the heart of the Republican political philosophy, it is and effective way to make goods cheaper and American Corporation more competitive and it is a smart move electorally.
Republicans acting like Republicans. Sounds like good philosophy, policy and strategy to me…
