“Uncle John’s Cabin”
By rawhide | August 20, 2007
That’s what John Edwards’ new 28,200 square foot house is being called, a very humerous nickname alluding to his recent poverty tour.
The house is the most valuable home in the county, located on a 102-acre estate just west of Chapel Hill. There are two garages, a barn and a recreation building. A local newspaper said that inside the recreation facility are
A basketball court, a squash court, two stages, a bedroom, kitchen, bathrooms, swimming pool, a four-story tower, and a room designated “John’s Lounge.”
Taxes alone are estimated to exceed $6 million. If you do the math (assuming that property taxes in N.C. reflect the national average of 15%), that means Uncle John’s Cabin is worth $40 million. Not bad for a guy who headlines the poverty tour circuit.
Uncle John’s Cabin, indeed.
