Study says we can leave Iraq…

By sage of monticello | August 29, 2007

…boy howdy, if only it were that easy. But thanks for your permission…

I guess we can leave Iraq now, a study says so…

Really, who thinks this way (dumb question - Democrats of course)

I did a study once about being able to snap my fingers and having a pot of gold appear….

But when I snapped my fingers nothing happened. This lead me to an axiom of life, namely that studies aren’t worth crap and especially so when they are done by a self-described progressive think tank run by a former Clinton staffer.

The study concludes that:

Most U.S. troops can be withdrawn safely from Iraq in roughly one year and the Bush administration should begin planning the pullout immediately, according to a study released Wednesday.

With the exception mostly of two brigades of about 8,000 troops who would remain in the touchy Kurdish region in the north for a year to guard against conflict with Turkey, the U.S. troops would be moved to Kuwait initially, says the study by the Center for American Progress, a self-described “progressive think tank” headed by John D. Podesta, a former chief of staff to former President Clinton.

A brigade and an air wing of some 70 to 80 planes would remain in the Persian Gulf country indefinitely. Meanwhile, the withdrawal would give the United States leeway to add 20,000 troops to the 25,000 in Afghanistan trying to counter Taliban and al Qaida forces.

So let me get this straight. This study is willing to suffer civil war in Iraq and the resulting regional destabilization that would result from the civil war and the power grab by Iran in the event of an Iraqi civil war to shift 20,000 troops to Afghanistan in order to “counter Taliban and al Qaida forces” there.

I hope this doesn’t make sense to you, because it shouldn’t make sense to you, for what would be the point to shift troops to Afghanistan from Iraq in order to win in Afghanistan if the whole region (including Afghanistan) will become destabilized by the act of pulling the troops out of Iraq?

The good achieved in Afghanistan is negated by the act needed to achieve that good - so in the end no good comes!

So why advocate this?

Well from a strategic electoral standpoint, liberals could pin, with the help of the media, the “no good comes part” on evil Republicans “who put us over there in the first place” with no reasonable expectation that this plan would come to fruition while Bush is President.

The “Get our troops out of Iraq; Iraq in civil war; Iran taking over Iraq; and the Middle East is destabilized” message is being promoted by the left to hurt our troops and undermine war effort in order to help the Democrats in ‘08.

What is worth hurting our troops and undermining a war for freedom? Well, to a Democrat, successful 2008 election results.

Thankfully, some are willing to put their party and re-election at risk for something greater and more important themselves. Those people often call themselves Republicans…

How do you know you’re Republican? Ask yourself this question:

Our nation or one election, which would you choose?
