Maine Federation Spotlight, Part II: Chairman Biography
By punch bowl | September 25, 2007
As written by Mr. Walton himself:
Nate Walton became active with the College Republicans soon after starting his freshman year at Bates College, devising a Get-Out-The-Vote (GOTV) plan that resulted in over 200 additional Republican votes from the traditionally liberal campus of 1,700 students in November 2004. Nate was elected the chapter’s first vice president in December 2004 and was elected chapter president in April 2005.
Nathaniel Walton was unanimously elected Chairman of the Maine College Republicans in July 2005 and remains Chairman. In the fall of 2005, Nate organized statewide “Academic Freedom Days” that featured lectures by Students for Academic Freedom (SAF) founder David Horowitz on two Maine college campuses.
Under Chairman Walton’s leadership, Maine College Republicans’ grassroots activism reached a level unprecedented in the history of the statewide organization during the 2006 election cycle. During the summer of 2006, Nate executed the MECR VICTORY FIELD PLAN Fundraising Campaign, which broke the Maine College Republicans’ previous fundraising records by raising $35,000 towards the hiring of 5 full-time College Republican Field Representatives. As a result, Maine College Republicans have been widely recognized as having played the crucial grassroots role towards numerous Republican victories across the Pine Tree State in 2006.
Chairman Walton has been recognized numerous times for his leadership of the Maine College Republicans. One of the most prominent of his awards and recognitions is the Richard M. and Helen DeVos Freedom Center Award for Student Leadership, which was awarded to Nate by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI) in April 2006 for his leadership in promoting the values of American freedom on Maine’s college campuses. In 2007, Young America’s Foundation invited Nate to join eleven other top conservative activists from across the country to collaborate extensively on new campus activism ideas as an advisory board member of one of the nation’s most utilized conservative activism guides, the Campus Conservative Battleplan.
Nate, also enjoys skiing, sailing and spending time with family and friends. He is a native of Marblehead, Massachusetts and has spent a great deal of time during the summers of his life in Maine.

Nate Walton is a shining example of how a College republican leader should operate. I only wish he would take over the Chairmanship of the CRNC because we need him.
