Maine Federation Spotlight, Part IV: State of the Federation
By punch bowl | September 27, 2007
According to Chairman Nate Walton:
The achievements of Maine College Republicans have been repeatedly recognized by state and national Republican leaders, and the statewide organization has become widely regarded as the national standard for state College Republican federations.
In July, the College Republican National Committee (CRNC) recognized the Maine College Republicans as the “Best State Federation in America” for the second time in three years.
Major accomplishments in recent years, as Mr. Walton informs me, include delivering the grassroots margin of victory for numerous Maine House and Senate candidates in 2006, ensuring the Republican Second Congressional District candidate a spot on the 2006 ballot, and delivering the Maine youth demographic for President George W. Bush in 2004.
Nate has also raised over $65,000 since 2005, including a $25,000 fundraising campaign in 2006 to help hire the five full-time CRNC field staff – staff that presumably delivered the Maine youth demographic to Bush in 2004.

how can the $25,000 raised in 2005, that was used to hire five field staff, be the staff used to win an election in a prior year? I take it that that was just a mistype or something not reviewed.
I was wondering, how is it that they ‘helped’ hire ‘CRNC’ field staff? Isn’t that kind of the CRNC’s responsibility to fund and hire field staff, since that’s why we elect national officers and hire staff, all with pretty nice ‘benefits’ for their ’service’ might I add. Should state chapters/federations be raising money for their own field staff, their own organization, and their own chapters?

I think the money was raised for the 2006 election cycle. Part II of this series mentions how Nate raised $35,000 for field staff in 2006 (how humble to say just $25K here!). It seems the Maine CRs did indeed raise money to hire CRNC staff, as otherwise they probably wouldn’t have been sent to Maine of all places.
