NYU CRs debate CDs
By punch bowl | October 16, 2007
The New York College Republicans held an annual debate with the College Democrats (except for last year, when the College Democrats declined, due to the illegal immigration protest sponsored by the College Republicans):
Approximately 60 people, mostly club members who were split along party lines, attended the event. The College Democrats chose to discuss the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, or SCHIP, which was vetoed by President Bush two weeks ago, while the College Republicans decided to debate about free trade. The event was co-moderated by Chris Cruzcosa, president of the College Democrats, and Jeffrey Cipriani, vice president of the College Republicans.
The College Democrats and Republicans traditionally debate every semester, but the College Democrats declined to debate the Republicans last spring to protest the group’s “Find the Illegal Immigrant” event, which the Democrats deemed “racist.”
