Zatkoff has competition in Michigan, Dave Drwencke Announces Candidacy

By punch bowl | October 29, 2007

Dave Drwencke has announced his candidacy for Chairman of the Michigan Federaion of College Republicans.

The press release I was sent reads in part –

ALBION, MI — Dave Drwencke, Albion College student, today announced his candidacy for Michigan Federation of College Republicans chair.

“I believe College Republicans are the largest and most significant source of conservative grassroots activism in the state. We need to be at our best for the presidential, U.S. Congress, state House and countless local races coming up in 2008. That’s why I’m running for chair of the MFCR. I have an ambitious vision for the future of our Federation, one that recognizes it’s potential. We have the ability to affect real change in Michigan next year, but it’s going to take new leadership with bold new initiatives,” Dave said.

Dave has served as chairman of the Albion College Republicans, field staff for Bouchard for US Senate, field staff for the Michigan Republican Party and regional coalition’s director for DeVos for Governor. During his tenure as Albion CR chair, he built the group to its largest levels through creative new recruitment efforts, organized the first statewide College Republicans week, and lead Albion CRs to national recognition through participation in the RNC’s Social Security petition drive.

Dave seems to be basing his candidacy on a principled stand against reform that he claims has not taken place under Zatkoff. A principled stand. Against reform. Sound familiar?

Dave, be careful - stands taken on principle can at times (March thru July, 2007) be dangerous and turn almost inevitable candidacies and candidates into nothing more than a few scattered abstention votes….

When is the election in Michigan? Is it me or are College Republicans announcing their intentions a tad early this time around. Are they mimicking the extended presidential elections? The last thing we all need are extended CR races. State terms are usually only a year long. We aren’t even finished with the fall semester. Can you imagine an extended CR campaign for state positions? Would tings really get done or would it be the same old same old?

Unfortunately, certain people (ahem Dave Drwenke) have decided to campaign as early as one month ago! Because of this, the word on the street is Michigan CR elections may be pushed up as early as January.

Joe, I have a feeling that if we contact you for the truth you will give anything but, or at least that is the word from nearly every College Republican inside and outside of Michigan that I have contacted regarding you.
