A reader writes, can you help?

What’s the best video camera one can buy? I’ve always wanted to shoot video (and had plenty of opportunity), but I have no idea which camera to buy!
My budget is around $400. I use an Apple Computer with basic iMovie editing.
Anyone know of a good camera and can use and then put the footage on my computer??

I’d Say look into a sony or jvc hard drive cam, i like them much better than a dvd or tape camera

I’m not techno-geek here, but I’ve read a little about the hard drive cameras, and some people caution against them because they are not compatible with all computers, and because the HDV tapes have a slightly higher quality video.
Again, not an official opinion. Pretty much any digital camera should do the trick though. Go to a real camera store, and not Best Buy and they will be able to answer your questions better.
