With charges pending, Drwencke steps down from post with Romney Campaign

By punch bowl | November 8, 2007

Dave Drwencke, a Michigan College Republican, was serving as Michigan Youth Chairman for Romney until charges of cyber stalinking arose, including police allegations that he posted nude pictures of ex-girlfriend on Web sites.

The Macomb Daily reports that —

Drwencke allegedly posted the photos and comments on at least three Web sites. The victim filed a complaint with Clinton Township police in November 2006 and again in June.

The official charge against Drwencke is the unlawful use of a computer to commit a crime.

Drwencke first made news by announcing his candidacy for MFCR Chair, running against Justin Zatkoff. Drwencke announced his candidacy on Oct. 28, only two days before his court hearing.

Drwencke attorney calls all of this “foolishness.”

But what is foolish are not the pending charges, but Drwencke’s candidacy for MFCR chair.

Given the 2006 elections, and the 2007 Kentucky Governor’s race, the last thing the Republican Party needs, even on the College Republican level, is more scandal, corruption, and frankly, immorality.

We can’t keep giving away elections because as a Party we fail to take a stand against those in our Party who are corrupt.

When the voters go to the polls with issues and ideas in their head, the vote-in Republicans. When they go to the polls with corrpuption on their mind they vote-out Republcians.

When the College Republicans of Michigan go to the polls to vote for their next chairman I hope they go with issues and ideas in their head as to which candidate will be the best - but never letting escape their minds how corruption and scandal have devasted our party as of late.

I don’t know if Justin Zatkoff is the best person for the position, but what I do know is that Dave Drwencke is not.

If Michigan wants a competitive race because they are upset with the job Justin has done, please choose someone with some character, integrity and self-control.
