Chairman Smith on conservative activism

By punch bowl | November 12, 2007

Excerpts from the CRNC chairman’s speech last weekend in California:

I’m a conservative, because conservatism works!

Of course, it only works if we are in control of the government - if we win elections. It makes no difference what we think, if we cannot create change.

Writing, speaking, training, educating are all imperative to the success of the conservative movement, but so is winning.

Winning is necessary on campus when we fight leftist professors who dominate their classrooms with socialist propaganda instead of educational material.

Winning is necessary on bookshelves and in lectures halls, to add balance to the debate and inform the public.

But winning is most critical in elections because if all we do is talk, all people will do is listen and we need them to do more.

We need people to mobilize, activate, and energize others around them to create change.

That’s what College Republicans are for.
