Questions to ask in Memphis

By cr nation | November 16, 2007

As CRNC Board Members arrive in Memphis this weekend, they should remember the promises by the current national officers during the campaign last summer. Such reflection should raise the following questions:

Where’s the website? Charlie Smith & Company promised to revamp the website and make it more professional and appealing by the end of the year. We still are stuck with the sorry status quo. When will we have a new website?

Where’s the database? Another promise was to create a national database of College Republicans and use it to expand membership and enhance productivity. Development was supposed to start soon, but no tangible product has yet been produced. When will we have the database?

Where’s the national programs? The idea was to begin coordinating College Republicans across the country for events, likely after a nominee was selected. No plans have been seen on that, either. When will we have national programs?

These are the questions that should be raised this weekend. Hopefully, someone will ask, and that the answers come in the form of results, not more promises.

It is my understanding that those three items are already on the agenda for the national board meeting this weekend. The budget proposals state chairs were sent certainly reflects those things as priorities.

I don’t have much of a CRNC history, but as I understand it just because the CRNC has it in the budget doesn’t mean its going to happen. Have you so quickly forgotten about incompetent previous CRNC administrations such as Gorley and Hoplin that had lots of things in their budgets that never happened.

CRs from across the country want ideas to be more than just a line item in a budget.

Better yet, where was the 2007 field program?

I’m sure we’ll spend tons of cash on a new website and database (waste of money) that will be outdated in two years and require yet another reinvestment by a future administration. Every administration likes to spend untold amounts on promoting themselves via a website that provides little practical use for CRs around the country.

Instead, cut the site to the bare bones, and put all the money saved into the field.

At least the Gourley administration dumped all their money into the field program. I can’t point to anything this administration has done.

The new website is up- it launched yesterday. Even in the early stages it’s already much, much better than the old one.

The database was explained to us in detail today. It’s still in developmental stages, but it is very, very cool. CRs are definitely going to be on the cutting edge as far as the technology goes.

The national events were also discussed in detail. They sounded like a fun and effective way to mobilize our large numbers on a national scale in an effective manner.

Overall, I was very impressed, as were a lot of other state chairs in the room. I fully commend Charlie and the team for the work they’ve done so far, and look forward to seeing a lot more in the future.

Anyone else see this as begging the question just before all of these problems were solved?

Haha, I was thinking the same thing. These were insider softball Hillary Clinton campaign questions.
