ACLU sides with College Republican in professor controversy
By punch bowl | November 27, 2007
For the past several months, Central Michigan University student, Dennis Lennox has been fighting against professor Gary Peters’ efforts to run for Congress at the expense of his classroom duties outlined in his employment contract
Lennox’s mantra: Choose either Congress or the Classroom, Gary.
In his effort, Lennox has started a student group and a blog, both of which actively support his efforts.
In addtion to the student group and blog, Lennox’s tactics, in many instances, include utilizing video, YouTube, and press releases - a combination which has served to get Dennis several on camera interviews by local media outlets.
In one such instance, Dennis videotaped and posted on YouTube his serving of a Michigan Freedom of Information request on the University. Lennox sought documents and emails pertaining to Peters’ employment with the University.

In another instance, Lennox videotaped Peters on campus. Shortly after both videotaping events, Lennox was banned from videotaping Peters on campus. A ban Lennox claims violates his First Amendment right to political adovacy and it appears that the ACLU agrees.
A Michigan bog, RightMichigan, reports that the ACLU, in a letter to CMU President Michael Rao dated Nov. 27th, requests that –
the University lift a ban on videotaping Professor Gary Peters on campus, a ban targeted at a conservative student, Dennis Lennox. According to the ACLU the University’s decision violates Mr. Lennox’s First Amendment right to engage in political advocacy.
Dennix Lennox, love him or hate him, shows that one dedicated student with the right tools (blog, video, press releases) can make a difference through impacting the local media for the causes important to that student.

I support his efforts….but I’d be a little creeped out if anyone was following me around with a video camera at night making statements such as “you can make this all go away…” haha
