Huckabee Ads

By sage of monticello | December 8, 2007

In regards to Rawhide’s (drunken) post from Ireland, a reader writes –

How about posting the video’s for everyone to see so we can make our own judgements…thanks

I’m all for people deciding for themselves, but these ads are some of the worst I have ever seen. These ads raise serious doubts in my mind about Huckabee’s ability to manage a campaign. If a man can’t competently manage a campaign, how can he manage a country?

At one point the second video states that Huckabee doesn’t try to hide the way he feels, but what about taxes? More to come in that regard later (another post).

“I’m a Democrat, I own a coffee shop. Vote Huckabee.”

“As someone who hasn’t been paying attention, I think Huckabee might be have opinions that he’s actually sharing. I like that. Maybe.”

“We don’t share any opinions, and yet Huckabee’s doublespeak allows both of us to support him!”

Wha-…huh? How does the Huckabee campaign go from the Chuck Norris commercial (brilliant) to… these (definitely NOT brilliant)?

You don’t get elected Lt. Governor and Governor (twice) without ‘competently’ running a campaign. Even more, not in a state where you are in the minority party. Come on now…

This is a copycat of Apple’s televisions spots about former PC users switching to Macs. It was a popular ad campaign for Apple, so it’s a good model to emulate.

However, when it’s done as poorly as these ads are, it’d be best not to show these to anyone and destroy all evidence of their existence.

To start with, the production values and audio are terrible, which highlight the spendthrift nature of his campaign. Furthermore, the views expressed are moronic, at best. They have little to do with any solid reasons to vote for Huckabee and are delivered with a “I guess he’ll do” attitude.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying that Huckabee lacks campaign competence based on these ads alone, it’s a bit early for that. But if this kind of thing continues, I would worry about his abilities.
