Primary Colors: Mike Huckabee is the authentic conservative
By cr nation | December 28, 2007
There is an authentic conservative in the race for president. His name is Mike Huckabee.
Let me first be clear that this is my personal endorsement, not the endorsement of the blog. Remember, CR Nation the blog will not be issuing an endorsement. CR Nation the writer, will.
The most important issues to me are issues of morality: abortion and gay marriage, first and foremost. For much of this campaign, I was disappointed with my choices. I could vote for Rudy Giuliani, who disagreed with me on both issues; I could vote for John McCain, who opposes a federal amendment banning gay marriage; I could vote for Mitt Romney, who has flip-flopped on both issues. The options among top-tier candidates were rather limited.
Then along came Mike Huckabee. His deep Christian faith puts his views almost perfectly in line with mine. Huckabee is not just against abortion and gay marriage; he advocates banning both. That is the type of candidate that I want to rally behind.
But there are so many other great things about Mike Huckabee. He is the only candidate actively supporting the Fair Tax, which would replace our convoluted system with a consumption-based tax program. The current system is flawed and broken, and replacing it with the Fair Tax is a good idea. Mike Huckabee has one of the toughest plans against illegal immigration of any candidate, nine points that will close our borders and end the de facto amnesty enjoyed today. Huckabee also understands that our party must do more to show real compassion, improving education and expanding health care access.
Not only does Mike Huckabee have tremendous ideas and solid values, but he can communicate those ideas and values better than anyone else that I have heard. Huckabee effortlessly tells stories to prove his points, like political parables, and his debate performances have been almost flawless.
Mike Huckabee’s skills and positions will make for a winning candidacy this fall. Huckabee can effectively counter any negative attacks, and can actually make in-roads among swing voters. His likeable personality and speaking ability can be the difference among independents in those battleground states. Like Huckabee says, he actually has faced the Clinton machine multiple times, and won.
I believe that we need a candidate who has not wavered on his core convictions. A candidate that stands for what is right because it is right. Someone who can hold the base, appeal to independents and defeat the Democrats. Mike Huckabee can do all that.
Mike Huckabee is a terrific candidate, but more important than that, he is a great person with unshakeable character. He will make an outstanding president.

Let’s think about this: consumption drives our economy. What’s the saying “if you want less of something, tax it”… no thank you FairTax. (23% for FEDERAL, not counting state and local, are you serious?)
“improving education”…are you serious? You mean your idea of improving education, which, if it’s anything good ol’ Huck will mean more money for teacher’s unions. After all, he’s the only Republican endorse by the highly-liberal New Hampshire teacher’s union. The status quo hasn’t worked with education, and it’s apparent he has every intention of keeping the status quo.
He has not faced the Clinton machine, and if he has, he hasn’t faced the one waiting at the end of this primary with $60 million dollars and a heavy anti-Republican sentiment driving it.
