Conservative campus activism
By punch bowl | January 7, 2008
Dennis Lennox continues his fight against liberal professor and U.S. House of Representatives candidate Gary Peters. He is a fine example of just how far a video camera, a blog, and a little elbow grease can take you.
Lennox claims that Peters is violating his teaching contract, in addition to shortchanging students and taxpayers, by simultaneously juggling a life as a professor and as a candidate.
Inevitably, Lennox claims, Peters will have to choose between giving 100% to being a professor and giving 100% to being a candidate. Lennox thinks Peters will choose his campaign - which Lennox asserts is unfair to students.
Since beginning his fight, Lennox has received an extraordinary amount of positive media in Michigan - Lennox has probably received more positive media in Michigan, than the CRNC has received nationally (but the CRNC is another story for another day).
If anything, it just goes to show you that you don’t need a name, a title, or a multi-million dollar political organization to make a difference on your campus or in your community.
This story, by a Michigan newspaper, is just another example.
Here is an excerpt:
Lennox has put a camera in the face of Peters and a CMU administrator. He said school officials have falsely portrayed him as dangerous and his grades have dropped. The ACLU has even come to his defense.
“I never imagined that my school … would go to such great lengths to stifle political involvement on campus,” he said. “I always thought universities were supposed to foster political dialogue and debate.”
Keep fighting the good fight, Dennis. Let us know how things turn out…
