Thompson drops out, Drudge reports possible VP bid

By sage of monticello | January 22, 2008

Former Sen. Fred Thompson issued the following statement regarding his candidacy –

Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people

Undoubtedly due to this announcement, there is speculation (reported on drudge) that Thompson is positioning himself for a potential bid for the Vice Presidency.

I guess if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em….

This is my own speculation, but I believe that Fred will be endorsing John McCain, but only following a strong showing in the Florida primary election.

    Any other thoughts?

You think that one up all by yourself? Or do you have a team of Rhodes Scholars pitching in?

You caught me! But they aren’t Rhodes Scholars, they’re just a few grad students. It’s much cheaper.

I could have come to that conclusion with some undergrads…grad students are over rated

Who’s VP is Thompson going to be? Not McCain’s, that’s Huck’s spot. Not Romney’s. Sure as hell not Giuliani’s.
