Feelings linger as Zatkoff re-elected to 2nd term…
By punch bowl | January 27, 2008
A Michigan College Republican writes –
…Justin ZATKOFF was re-elected as chairman of the statewide College Republicans during an annual convention on Saturday at Oakland University.
With that said, the Michigan Federation of College Republicans leadership race wasn’t without controversy.
The two largest groups in the state - the University of Michigan and Michigan State University - boycotted the convention, saying it was illegitimate. This resulted in the lowest turnout of delegates in five years, and the controversy didn’t stop there.
U-M and the University of Detroit-Mercy quit the statewide College Republicans organization, which is legally independent of the Michigan Republican Party, earlier this year. There have been serious concerns because MFCR is not a legal political action committee, as it is not properly registered with neither state or federal agencies. Additionally, many College Republicans were concerned because Zatkoff had used the group as a tool of the McCain campaign.
Zatkoff is part of the Chuck YOB machine that unsuccessfully tried ousting MRP Chairman Saul ANUZIS after the 2006 general election. Zatkoff and Anuzis have had public feuds, and the College Republican chairman threatened to sue the state party if it “meddled” in youth politics.
Zatkoff, a junior at U-M, was unchallenged in his race for re-election. His second opponent Amanda ZALUCKYJ of Grand Valley State University, a Fred THOMPSON supporter, dropped out of the race earlier this month, citing her disgust with the dirty politicking and political gamesmanship of the Zatkoff organization. Zaluckyj has been claiming she was chairman of the statewide College Republicans because Zatkoff’s school left the organization — making him ineligible for re-election.
Recall that Zatkoff was originally challenged by Dave DRWENCKE of Albion College, who later dropped out after he was fired by the Mitt ROMNEY campaign when it was revealed he was facing felony charges for posting naked photos of his girlfriend on the internet.

Way to go Zatkoff and Michigan CR leaders. It must have been a heck of a convention considering your KEYNOTE speaker was Charlie Smith. Seriously, that’s the best you could do? The Chair of the CRNC is the best you could do?
Next time, get a real keynote speaker. No offense to Charlie, but there are high profile conservative speakers and Republican politicians to be had. I guess you just don’t have the connections, money, or brainpower to pull it off.
