Szydlowski wins IFCR election
By punch bowl | January 27, 2008
The Illinois College Republicans held their convention this weekend. The convention comes on the heels of a constitutional scandal involving former Chairman Patrick Binning and former Treasurer Brett Kotecki in which Mr. Kotecki was impeached for alleged indiscretions in an allegedly improper manner.
In the midst of controversy, Meagan Szydolowski was elected Chairwoman of the IFCR. Despite the election of a new Chair, the question still on people’s mind is whether the organization can be turned around.
Below is a statement sent to CR Nation by outgoing IFCR Chairman Patrick Binning summing up the convention and its activities:
The 2008 Illinois College Republican Federation Convention was a huge success. It was held at the Hilton in Downtown Chicago on Michigan Avenue…
Approximately 75 students showed up…
Friday Night included a Cocktail Reception with guests, friends, donors, candidates, and elected officials. Following the Cocktail Reception was an afterparty in one of the suites complete with living area, dinning area which served as the ICRF war room and two bedroom, complete with a Lake side view.
Elections were held, Meagan Szydlowski(NIU) ran for chair, Caitlin Ketel(COD) ran for 1st Vice Chair, Justine Perry (Loyola-Chicago) ran for 2nd Vice Chair, Stephanie Gradle (ISU) ran for secretary, and Maurice “Momo” Harris (Knox College) ran for treasurer.
All were elected unanimously by the convention delegates.

Great. So basically NIU has yet another year to ruin the ICRF. Brilliant move. In case you were wondering, that is the same Meagan of “drinking for jesus” fame. That also means that Jeremy Rose will continue his reign of terror as Executive Director.
Outgoing CROOK Patrick J. Binning was pressured BY the CRNC not to run again, which is the only reason he isn’t the dictator this time around. The new victims, i mean officers will soon learn that this show is a two man show - the chairman and executive director - and that it doesn’t matter what they do because Jeremy Rose and Meagan will not tolerate dissent in any form. Nobody even knows who justine perry is, so here’s hoping she might not be too bad. Caitlin Ketel cannot be trusted at ALL. You might recall a certain incident in which SHE and JEREMY ROSE stole 3,000 from Brett Kotecki - and then turned around and accused HIM of doing it. Back-Stabbing people like Caitlin do not change. You can expect more of the same from her. She is not to be trusted.
Stephanie Gradle has been seen with Jeremy on more than one occasion, sources tell us that they are drinking buddies. Speaking of underage drinking, that “cocktail reception” was full of that! The after-party was a college party with alcohol for all (even the underage girls) in the Governor’s Suite of the Hotel. Oh and by the way, the 3000 dollars that was stolen from Brett Kotecki was used to pay for all the alcohol this weekend, including drinks for all the UNDERAGE GIRLS. when are these people going to stop breaking the law?

Re: Illinois is screwed
I’ll be the first to say that this past year had it’s troubles, problems, and hardships. But that has passed. And until it happens with this administration, I’m willing to give them a chance.
We’re College Republicans in ILLINOIS, the only thing we have left is our optimism-let’s not let that die too.
So, while I’ll be the first in line to constructively criticize the former administration, I’m all about giving people the benefit of the doubt and will do so in this case. And even with the former administration, I have spoken to Rose and Binning recently, and while they know I wasn’t fond of some of their action, I still have a respect for them, but yes, I would’ve liked to see more out of them but then again, my opinion amounts for very little, I’m sure.
Having said all that, best of luck to all the new officers. It’s good to see some fresh faces up there.

Underage students drinking? At a College Republicans event?? Say it isn’t so! In all seriousness though- duh.
Also, as an FYI to anyone wondering why Binning didn’t run for re-election- he’s graduating in December. It’s really that simple. Stop being determined to see conspiracies and plots in everything.

speaking of ages and years in college, it should be pointed out that Szydlowski is only a Sophomore

Well in regards to Pointer Outter I would suggest that if you are concerned about age go vote for the unqualified Obama. I am more qualified to be president than Obama. Our new chair is highly qualified to fulfill and exceed the duties of her position. I am looking forward to seeing her do amazing work and all of you secretely realizing that you were wrong and that she did great things for the CRs. So on that note, I will be the first to say that I told you a year down the road.

Binning didn’t run because he was tired of being harassed by people who DONT EVEN SHOW UP.

Age Issue, I think we are on the same page and not realize it. I was “pointing out” if you will that Szydlowski is only a Sophomore, and has A LOT ahead of her. The other thing that is exciting is her supporting cast, they will end up being the unsung heros, much like a great offensive line supports a great quarterback.

I attended Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and I can tell you that the official College Republicans organization in our state is pretty much worthless. This includes the former leadership and the newly elected.
Why should anyone participate in an organization which for the last eight months DID NOTHING or put on anything in the state except poorly planned meetings which were always put together 48 to 72 hours in advance. How was I supposed to show up to anything with anyone as a student with other more important obligations to meet?
It’s only correct for an organization if it is to be taken seriously to give proper notice on when any meetings will be held.
The only person to have contacted me in regards to working for campaigns for Congress, local races, or some pretty cool events that were going on in Chicago was Brett.
He’s always been genuine about having myself and other Republicans in my area get involved locally at school. He would give us a call every once in a while just to check in to see how we were doing, and always invited myself up to meet elected officials in and around Chicago and attend various functions, which were a lot of fun.
He always extended the invitation to as many people willing to go as possible and as many of my friends that I could “get to legally fit in my car.”
He was always direct with his words and adament about getting work done, and that’s why most people like him. It’s always why some people didn’t like him.
There’s no way anyone in there right mind should participate in the ICRF by the way they ignore all the rules, and the way they characterize downstate schools that aren’t around Chicago as “hickish and worthless (including mine)”
It doesn’t even cost any money to just get people together to sign petitions or walk door to door so they can get to know each other… but the ICRF still can’t even do that.
The Executive Director of the ICRF, Jeremy Rose, is a delegate for Mitt Romney in one of the congressional districts in Chicago.
I’m sure Mitt will be pleased he created an event befitting of his campaign entitled “Drinking for Jesus” before Christmas of last year (2007). The new Chairman Meagan Szydolowski from Northern Illinois University had no problem endorsing this type of activity either since she attended it.
Actions speak louder than words… and half of the schools already left the ICRF, including where even our late great President Ronald Reagan attended college, Eureka College for all of the above reasons. (another one of those hick schools down there in the middle of nowhere that mean nothing to these people because they’re not from Chicago)
On one of the most important days to get out the vote for Republicans before the February 5th primary in Illinois, a convention was planned in the middle of January during a massive snowstorm to deter a bunch of downstate schools from attending, so a bunch of people could get together at a hotel on Michigan Avenue, elect themselves to positions that they think mean something, but really don’t, and “celebrate all the hard work they did” with an open bar for turning out absolutely no votes and helping the Republican Party in any way shape or form over the last year.
What a complete waste of money.
