Zatkoff re-elected to 2nd term

By punch bowl | January 27, 2008

The report out of Michigan is that incumbent Chairman, Justin Zatkoff, unanimously won re-election to a 2nd term. Zatkoff’s entire ticket won; the closest race was for Co- Chair with a vote of 84-3.

The Zatkoff ticket won despite despite loud criticisms voiced by some - criticisms that failed to manifest themselves into concrete action. Like many “real reform” movements within the College Republican ranks, the “reform” pushed in Michigan by Joe Sylvester and Dave Drwenke was heavy on the talking, but light on the doing.

This makes me wonder, is it really reform if the plan is to do nothing?

Except both Michigan and Michigan State boycotted the convention. Michigan and Detroit-Mercy have also withdrawn from MFCR because of Zatkoff.

Except for the fact that both Michigan and Michigan State were represented at convention.

In fact, the University of Michigan came and asked to be rechartered because they had made a mistake.

Detroit-Mercy isn’t a College Republican chapter and hasn’t been for over a year.

Maybe if you childish kids stop fighting Zatkoff, who was elected unanimously yesterday by nearly 100 College Republicans from across the state, you will be able to accomplish something instead of fighting each other.

It’s time to grow up, kids.

Justin Zatkoff wouldn’t have won if he hadn’t prohibited his own school from attending, forcing the University of Michigan to withdraw its membership and become an independent College Republican chapter with no affiliation whatsoever to the Michigan Federation of College Republicans. This should have made Zatkoff ineligible from re-election, but he claimed he was dual-enrolled, taking an online class at Oakland Community College; which is where he attended before transferring to the University of Michigan last year.

If College Republicans really wanted to make a difference, they would realize MFCR is a joke. It can’t be reformed, plain and simple. Stop dreaming big and just accept that MFCR is a social club and it’s leadership positions are popularity contests between kids, who were for the most part, dweebs and nerds in high-school.

There’s no excuse for the unprofessional behavior of Zatkoff.

Whether it’s the posing for sexually explicit photos, faking an assault when he was drinking underage and got beat up by friends, or challenging Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul ANUZIS. But ultimately, so many of his critics are simply jealous because they aren’t as cool or popular, and quite frankly, this is college and most collegians simply don’t care about underage boozing, pornography, or bastardizing sex.

Every campaign is about “reform” or “change.” Funny thing is that none of them actually result in that.

I would think you guys would have picked up on that by now…
