I bet you the word change is said at least 100 times tonight.

If Bush promotes “change we can believe in,” will Barack “stand up for change”?

I just laughed when the House security guard took a break from his duties to shake the secretary of state’s hand

Bush takes the podium, Ted Kennedy isn’t clapping and Obama is standing next him, clapping and smiling and laughing — looks like they were sharing a private joke.

I’m sure she finds it to be a distinct honor…

Anyone else think Obama has big ears?

What do you all think of the speech thus far?

  9. sage of monticello Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 9:43 pm

Personally, I like the part on earmarks. Particularly his vow to veto bills bloated with earmarks and to freeze money appropriated without a vote by Congress

At times, Speaker Pelosi looks happier at what Bush is saying than Dick Cheney

Sorry for not being here earlier. Sage and I were locked out of our account until just a few minutes ago.

Obama and Kennedy sitting next to each other was a great idea.

so i think uncle ted and barack sleep with each other

  14. rawhide Says:

There you have it. The Democrats want to lose. Look at Pelosi during Bush talking about Iraq.

  15. rawhide Says:

Pelosi’s reading a book. How disrespectful!

I couldn’t get onto CR Nation until just a minute ago. Everything seems pretty standard so far. Also- I notice that Cheney isn’t blinking a million times a minute, like he did during the last SOTU.

  17. sage of monticello Says:

I don’t understand how Obama and Kennedy sitting together was such a great idea. How does that get him votes?

  18. Ashley Barbera Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 9:50 pm

I think the book Pelosi is reading is a copy of the speech.

  19. rawhide Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 9:51 pm

Maybe Pelosi wants to know when she can’t clap.

  20. rawhide Says:

I think Condi could kill someone with those daggers from her eyes.

  21. Ashley Barbera Says:

    She’s pretty intense

  22. rawhide Says:

The Democrats sure are literate folks. Biden’s reading, too.

  23. rawhide Says:

You know, every now and then, I wonder if Cheney’s heart is still beating. Look at how still he sits.

  24. sage of monticello Says:

In my opinion, this has been one of Bush’s best State of the Union speeches.

  25. Ashley Barbera Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 9:56 pm

Ok, even if it is a copy of the speech, Pelosi should know how bad it looks to be reading on camera.

  26. David Brewster Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 9:57 pm

Those books they are copies of the speech so they can follow along…they’re not REALLY being rude…but since they’re democrats…lets burn them at the stake!!!

  27. rawhide Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 9:58 pm

We still haven’t had a spotlight on someone from the gallery. Who will it be? I’d bet on a soldier, because Bush always talks about them.

  28. rawhide Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 9:59 pm

I also think it’s interesting that Bush is saving the “State of the Union is strong” line until the end. I like the idea.

  29. rawhide Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 10:03 pm

I don’t think he said anything about the current state of the Union. I guess it can be inferred when he said that the SOTU will remain strong. Future tense, though, not future.

I did like the open arms “Let us do the people’s business” gesture.

One thing I think we can all agree on:

President Bush is a man of character that will do what he beleives is best for America.

  33. Edmund Burke Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 10:36 pm

I never understood why the Democrats picked Nancy Pelosi to be speaker and party leader. She’s a horrible speaker and doesn’t handle herself well with mannerisms and body language when she’s on camera. Not to mention, she always talks as if she is chewing bubblegum.

And you know what, I just realized that Ted Kennedy has never stood for anything. He changes with every whim of the day — anything that will get him a couple more votes from an emerging voter block.

  34. Anonymous Says:
    January 28th, 2008 at 10:54 pm

Kennedy will get elected in MA until he dies. I don’t think he’s worrying about votes.
