McCaig out, Murphy in

By punch bowl | February 19, 2008

In am email to CR Nation, Mark McCain bowed out of seeking the chairmanship of the Texas College Republicans:

After giving it much consideration, I have decided not to seek the Chairmanship of the Texas Federation of College Republicans. Between my obligations with law school and other organizations I am a part of, I do not believe that I could devote enough time and energy to this position, should I have decided to seek it.

Several days after receiving McCaig’s email, Ryan Murphy, current Vice-Chair of the Texas College Republicans, sent us the below email:

It’s taken considerable deliberation and introspection, but I’m pleased to announce my candidacy for TFCR State Chairman. The biggest roadblock has been my friendship with Clint Petersen and Mark McCaig, who have both explored their own candidacies. However, it became glaringly obvious that I needed to put the best interests of the TFCR ahead of my own.

Earlier this evening I spoke with both Clint and Mark, and I’m very proud to announce that both have decided that they will not run for State Chairman and have given me their endorsement. I’m thankful and humbled by their decisions, both mean very much to me.

Over my spring break I will travel throughout the state, meeting with College Republicans near and far, as a way to foster their renewed participation in our federation. We’ve got a lot of work to do, but I’m confident that we will soon take our place among Texas’ most influential political organizations.

According to Ryan Murphy’s profile on Facebook, he’s a centrist. He isn’t a liberal, a conservative, or a libertarian. Weird.

    What’s your point, Tylenol?

By the way, to correct Punch Bowl just slightly, I’m the Vice Chairman of Development & Operations rather than Vice Chairman. It’s an easy mistake, but I wanted to set the record straight.

Ryan Murphy’s chapter doesn’t even exist, and he’s worried more about other state’s drama than fixing his own. I think it’s fairly obvious he’s in CRs just to have good blog material.

How do I get in touch with Justin Zatkoff? He’s soooo hott.

I think it’s funny that my only detractor(s) is some anonymous poster hiding behind various brands of pain relievers, who has to resort to lies and various statements of ineptitude to discredit me.

Even people who can’t stand me personally, have openly admitted that I’m the best hope for revival of the TFCR and endorsed my candidacy for Chairman.

I must be doing something right.

It is a tactic used since before our time in CRs. You name call and throw out a few random false allegations with just a hint of truth, hoping all along that something sticks. The best part of the drive-by is that your name is never attached to it, which is why it was always great to see many of the trashing comments on my old blog line up with hits from the CRNC offices.
