Texas College Republicans suspend constitution

By cement mixer | March 1, 2008

Sent to CR Nation via email in the form of a press release:

Following months of inaction from Justin Jordan, the current State Chairman of the Texas Federation of College Republicans (TFCR), the organization’s Executive Board has voted to move for the suspension of the TFCR’s governing constitution in order to plan and execute the TFCR’s Annual Convention.

In a statement to his fellow chapter chairmen, Ryan Murphy addressed the reasons for this emergency action, saying “This isn’t the ideal situation, however it’s the only constitutionally viable solution we have left to salvage this year and move forward into an incredibly important campaign season.”

Additionally, he spoke of the current TFCR Chairman, saying “We have given Justin Jordan plenty of time to fulfill his responsibilities to this organization, and have been disappointed every time we give him our trust. We are not moving to remove him from office or impeach him, but we cannot sit on the sidelines watching our organization deteriorate further.”

Over the weekend, the Executive Board will be contacting and collecting the votes of Chapter Chairmen across Texas, with the intent of suspending the TFCR Constitution. The Executive Board has also contacted the CRNC National Chairman, Charlie Smith, to insure the propriety of all their actions and to maintain consistency with the CRNC’s Constitution.

The tentative date for the Annual Convention is April 19th, 2008 and the location will be set following suggestions from Chapter Chairmen and a vote by the TFCR Executive Board.

Mr. Murphy is the current Vice Chairman of Development & Operations for the TFCR and the current Chairman of the Collin College Republicans.

Ryan, I take rabid exception to this statement:
“Over the following months, we will all work together as a team to resolve the problems that have been created over the last year and move forward in rebuilding. Part of this will be a series of chapter training seminars that all College Republican leaders will be expected to attend this Summer.”

Um, NO. After you just admitted your state fed is in meltdown, YOU’RE “expecting” them to attend your events as if they owe something to you? As if you’re entitled to have them show up and hear how great you are? And your organization? You’re the one who needs to prove why you are worth something to these chapters, not the other way around.

Chapter chairmen don’t owe me anything. However, I owe them a responsible, active, state federation.

The problem over the last year hasn’t been that they weren’t interested in, and not attending, our TFCR events, but rather the fact we haven’t had any events for them to attend. That’s going to change, and I “expect” that most CRs will be very interested in attending.

Also, I never called it “my” organization, it’s always “our” organization and “we” are going to make things better. There’s a clear distinction there and to say otherwise is ridiculous.

As for me proving my worth to chapters, I’m already doing that and have received incredible responses from everyone I’ve dealt with so far. I never put it the other way around, in my words or thoughts, you’re grasping for an argument that just isn’t there.

Anyone else think Ryan Murphy is the most overdramatic human being alive?
