CRNC Field Program update
By punch bowl | March 28, 2008
The CRNC Field Program is considered by many College Republicans to be the backbone of the organization because it is intended to assist federations in achieving their purpose: electing Republican candidates.
The CRNC reports that they still plan on hiring between 45 and 60 field reps depending on the caliber of the applicants.
They would like to hire 60, however, the CRNC will not “dilute the pool [of field reps] by hiring people who are not qualified…”
To help ensure that 60 field reps are hired, the CRNC made the following video featuring field director, Will Croswell:
If you are interested in becoming a field rep (applications here), the hiring process has begun and will continue over the next several months.
The starting date for any hires will not be until August, but the CRNC is currently accepting both applications and commitment agreements.
Asking about the screening process, I received the following answer:
1. An application is received and processed by our National Field Director
2. If the application meets our initial hiring criteria we then review references
3. If references check-out we proceed to a phone interview,
4. If that stage is fulfilled and the applicant meets our standards, we then advance to a personal interaction which can take the form of a meeting at a state convention, a voucher from a known political quantity such as the State CR chairman, or an official within the state party, or a number of other functionaries with whom we have contact in a political context.
5. If someone we trust can vouch for their intra-personal skills and all other criteria have been satisfied, i.e. they can make the necessary commitment to leave school or another job, they can operate a vehicle etc. then we contract them.
Pay is $3,600 for the course of the program from Mid August through the Election, plus all travel and housing expenses.

It is the backbone of the CRNC. Without the field program, the CRNC is just an office with a website and has less members than the typical CR chapter.

You all might want to check out the Leadership Institute’s Field Program. They are paying about 3x as much as the CRNC. About $15,000 for the semester.

Yeah, except the only people working for LI are those who can’t get a job anywhere else.
LI pays a ton because they know what a joke their organization is.
They claim to have more than 1000 student organizations but the number is really more around 100. They don’t delete them from their list if they shut down. Since many are started by friends of field reps (field reps get paid per group), I’m sure you can imagine how many fake ones are on the list.
Plus, LI is severely micromanaged and it’s also staffed by some of the dumbest people around. I think your IQ actually drops during the course of employment.
Overall, and don’t take this lightly, LI is an organization that will do more harm to you than good. Idiots tend to work there and, much to the dismay of LI recruiters, an LI job doesn’t look very good on your resume.
I’m not a fan of the CRNC or its field program, but it’s a hell of a lot more legitimate than LI.
By the way, has anyone ever noticed that when LI people go on to law school they often end up at the crappiest schools?

James O’Keefe - some unaccredited school in California

“Adam”…you have got to be kidding me. If you have worked in DC or really ever been involved in the process, you know LI is a respected organization. Their field rep program pays very well and has lead to jobs all over DC and the country for it’s alums.

Also..I’m sure every CRNC field rep goes onto HYS, right?

The CRNC Field Rep is just as lame as the LI. The CRNC is run by a bunch of pricks that are full of themselves. The CRNC name is not that well respected.
