TFCR making strides

By cement mixer | April 8, 2008

The Texas College Republicans are making strides in rebuilding their organization under the leadership of Ryan Murphy. The lastest example is the return of the Texas A&M College Republicans to the federation.

Below is the message that I was sent via e-mail by Mr. Murphy:

The Texas A&M College Republicans have decided to return to the TFCR, following three years of absence due to conflicts between past leaders of both organizations. They are the largest College Republican chapter in the state, with more than 650 registered members.

Texas A&M is the most recent chapter to make their return. In the last two weeks several more chapters have sought re-affiliation with the TFCR, including Stephen F. Austin University, UT - Arlington, Texas Christian University, and Baylor University. These four chapters provide roughly 300 registered members among them, augmenting our federation’s already burgeoning volunteer force.

The Texas A&M College Republicans are nothing but a hassle, they lie on their credentials, don’t pay dues, and cause nothing but problems. TFCR was better without them and their 50 paid members.

TX GOPer, while I understand the history of conflict between the TFCR and A&M chapter, I don’t subscribe to it. Neither does their new Chairman, Brian Miller. We’ve both put these old conflicts in the past, where they belong.

I’ve been very impressed with their chapter and their leadership, and I believe that any skeptics will agree with me once they meet the new A&M leadership at convention this weekend.

As for lying on credentials and only having 50 paid members, you couldn’t be more wrong. They have built a huge, paid, membership base over the years and maintain it every semester, and I can personally attest to that.

Their recruiting practices should be a model for every chapter in our state, if not the country. It’s pretty incredible.

I’m sure you do attest to that, you weren’t on the credentials committee spending hours upon hours calling Taco Bells and Pizza Huts for all of A&M’s fake members.
