DemTV
By sage of monticello | April 24, 2008
The College Democrats of Michigan have created a video program they call DemTV. Its intended to provide members with b-weekely policy updates. Although it called a program, its more a less a College Democrat with a video camera. The latest version of DemTV chronicles the Michigan College Democrat convention in East Lansing this past weekend.
Part I:
Part II:
After viewing both parts I have come to several conclusions. First, the College Democrats in Michigan suck. The convention looked small, under 50 students at any given time. Also, the feel I got from the video is that students were unexcited about convention - I felt like the students in the video acted as if they were forced or “guilt-tripped” into coming.
For all the mud-slinging that goes on among Michigan CRs, they are far and away ahead of this pathetic group of students. Also, love him or hate him, I would take Justin Zatkoff anyday over the seemingly weak-willed chairman the College Democrats of Michigan recently elected.
One last thing, for all that is said regarding Charlie Smith and the officers of the CRNC, their savvy and work ethic, while it may not fall into line with what ever reader on the site wants, its infinitely better than Lauren Wolf and the national College Dems.
Bottom line: Compared to the College Dems we have it good…

The Michigan CDs are better organized because they’re all on the same page. And there are several “young” (18-40ish) Dem groups in Michigan, which are more powerful than any comparison GOP group. Unlike the MI GOP, they are all affiliated with the state party and are part of that network instead of having a separate, inferior “youth” wing.

There is an entire separate organization in Michigan: The Michigan Federation of Young Republicans (18-40ish), which, I assure you are more powerful than any Dem group in Michigan.
The problem with the Dems are twofold: they are NOT on the same page, as while some chapters may be large and able to be effective, most DEM organizations are plagued with too many special interest groups: the gay caucus, the stonewall dems, the transexual caucus, the green dems… and, they don’t work together.
The second problem is they would rather be a part of another bureaucracy. There’s a reason why College Republicans fundraise and are organized nationally-why Charlie Smith’s job is paid and full time; and then why the CDA barely have a national organization-with no real national programs, and with a part-time, volunteer chairman (or, I think they say, chairperson).
The “inferior youth wing” as you call it is the grassroots army of the republican party. SEE

You don’t see the College Dems or, the “several young Dem groups in Michigan” doing anything close to this. Sorry, but Democrats (not just specific to MI) suck.

This is HILARIOUS! I can’t decide if my favorite part was the absurd display of athletic ineptitude (that we already knew about), the annoying munching of chips lunch segment, Lauren Wolfe’s rediculous outfit, or Jennifer Granholm’s discussion of her “sausage” pen??
Nothing makes me happier than their apparent pride in this joke of a “convention” blah, blah, blah, blah BORING!
CRs ROCK!

Look people, we can all agree on one thing, Dana Cronyn is smokin’ hot.
PS. I got $50 that says Josh Strazanac is gay. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
