STORM, field reps and the CRNC

Many comments have recently been made on this website concerning STORM, the field rep program (specifically the allocation of field reps) and the job – in general – the CRNC has been doing, Charlie, Ethan, Esther, Will, etc. In response to those comments – many made anonymously –...

Accountable

As with most anything, CR Nation is ultimately accountable to the people, our readers. College Republicans will either continue reading or they won’t.

In order to keep our readership, in order to keep CRs coming back, in order to truly be CR Nation: News for College Republicans; we need to persistently provide content which is interesting to the average College Republican.

If we don’t, we run the risk of being like every other College Republican blog: more about what the writers want to write (and want you to believe) than what the readers want to read (and decide for themselves).

When this blog was founded it was founded on several principles, one of which was to be a sounding board for College Republicans nationally. If we ever stray from that principle, we expect (and hope) to be held accountable.

Given this, a reader comments on the recent post stating that CR Nation is in the process of adding two new writers:

Hopefully they write about more than CR conventions.

Seriously, this blog is starting to suck. You guys write about the most boring stuff.

So, I ask, on behalf of all the writers at CR Nation, to be held accountable. Tell us what you want us to write about, give us a new direction if you don’t like our current (or lack of) direction. What “more” do you want?

Whatever you do, don’t criticize without providing any solution or alternative. We want your feedback because, as I said earlier, we are ultimately accountable to the people.

This blog is as much about you as it is me. So leave some feedback and make CR Nation a blog of the people, by the people and for the people.

I look forward to reading what everyone has to say.

Personally, I enjoyed the convention coverage and found it useful. I thought you guys did a great job providing a resource to the community, since that information wasn’t available in any other single location on the internet.

But, if I were going to make any requests, it’d be for more frequent posts and much fewer YouTube videos.

More frequent posts. Got it. That is one of the reasons we are adding more writers.

But, I would like to know (from anybody) what changes, if any, you would like to see in the content of what is posted.

So, while you would like to see us post more frequently, what do you want us to post more frequently on?….

CR politics.

Your blog name IS CRnation

Other than the YouTube videos, I’ve got no complaints about the content. I’d just like to see you post more about what you’re already covering.

But, I’ll second Anon at 10:19, in that it’d be nice to see a little more discussion of internal politics in College Republicans. Some people don’t care much for it, but I find most of internal anglings pretty interesting to watch.

How about resource pages? Instead of just a blog page, why not make other pages….

say, a collection of constitutions from state federations..

chapter/federation manuals.

Obviously this is something the CRNC should probably do, but just a thought.

This blog used to be decent, but lately there has been nothing but enormous posts about CR conventions. It doesn’t get much more boring than that.

I’d like to see more coverage of CR gossip. Post about rumors, controversies, or post provocative questions that cause people to comment.

And please, do not post anymore John McCain campaign videos. Nobody likes watching those.

Another suggestion is to post regularly. A problem with CR nation is that nothing will be updated for a while, but all of a sudden there will be 10+ posts and I have to read everything at once.

And don’t be afraid to post things that are critical of other CRs. Is Justin Zakoff an idiot or is he doing good job? Are people like Kyle Bristow and other “yaf” loonies good or bad for CRs. Does the constant CRNC “reform” election theme mean anything or is it always the same type of people getting elected? Should CRs support McCain or spend their time criticizing him? Are organizations like the Leadership Institute and Young America’s Foundation a scam? Why does YAF make us pay tens of thousands of dollars for generic speakers when they have a budget of almost 20 million per year?

As provocative questions like those, and let readers weigh in. That’s what makes a blog fun.

Also, you might consider tracking the activities of former CR members. Who is doing what these days. What are people doing after graduation? What are people doing that were involved five years ago? Follow the people who are active and post about what they’re doing.

Anyway, I hope these are some useful suggestions.

By the way, do NOT waste time with a resource guide. That’s the most useless activity ever. Nobody looks at that stuff.

I agree with Tim. Nobody cares about the McCain videos or major candidates; we can get that news anywhere. We want the gossip and rumors, we want to find out which current or former CRs are running for office and where to send a check, we want to hear which CR chair is hated by their members, and we want to know about the scandals. I would love to see more MOLE PHOTOS from CR parties. What do CRs really do when nobody is watching?

I also agree with Hmm.

I’d love to see people sending in anonymous photos of CRs at parties. If that happens, prepare to see your traffic go far above that of Truth Caucus.

The only reason Truth Caucus (isn’t it Nick Pistor?) gets traffic is because he posts gossip, however sparse it may be. His “To Wit” postings are extremely stupid and he doesn’t even allow people to post comments.

Add more gossip, photos of CR parties, info on what people do after college (good and especially the bad, such as who is unemployed and working crappy jobs), and prepare to see your site traffic increase dramatically.
