Pink, Red, White, & Blue: Berkeley College Republicans
By lace | May 1, 2008
“Code Pink,” formed in 2002, is an attempt by a group of unhappy, liberal females to end the Iraq war. The name “Code Pink” is a play off of President George W. Bush’s Homeland Security Advisory System, with pink representing “compassion.”
Thanks to the Berkeley College Republicans, “Code Pink” may now have to show some “compassion” and share their precious protest space…
According to The Daily Californian, Berkeley College Republicans have requested a “sound waiver permit” at the same time and place “Code Pink” protests outside a Marine recruiting center.
Kimberly Wagner, Activism Chair of the Berkeley College Republicans, states:
“(Code Pink’s) claim is that they’re protecting free speech,” she said. “I kind of don’t feel they are, they are inhibiting the recruitment center in general. It’s important that they are not unopposed, that there are people willing to fight them. Even though it’s Berkeley, the liberal center of America, there will be people (opposed).”
In addition to working on a “sound waiver permit,” Berkeley College Republicans have created an online petition that would remove organizations like “Code Pink” from protesting too close to the recruitment center. The Berkeley College Republicans contend that these protests hurt local businesses. The City Council, however, paints a different picture. Dona Spring, council member and active Democrat (Democratic Central Committee 1986-88), is quoted as saying:
“I think it’s a crock, and I don’t think they’re going to get far with that… they’re just barking up a dead tree.”
Pink truly isn’t for everyone…

No offense, but this story is getting old. I don’t care what code pink does because they’re a bunch of stupid protesters with no credibility. So what if they’re “unopposed”? It’s not like they’ll ever accomplish anything.
Just let them do their thing. Nobody takes them seriously. In fact, very few people take anyone serious if he/she is waiving a sign or shouting in a bullhorn. Activism is lame and pointless.
