By lace | May 3, 2008
We have one. You should join. Its that simple.
Plus all the cool CRNC kids are doing it (i.e. Ethan Eilon, Esther Clark, Zach Howell…and we’re hoping for that dreamy Charlie Smith).

STORM has deceptive numbers because many CR chapters have been creating accounts for their members. Read the FAQ on STORM.

No, thats pretty much just wrong…

I know multiple individuals who were looking at STORM on their friends’ computers, only to see that they were already signed up without knowing. Others have received friend request notifications in their email accounts without having signed up.
Go read the FAQ. It says chapter chairs sign people up with or without their permission.

When Chapter Chairmen (and State Chairmen) upload a membership list to Storm, it automatically sends an invitation to every email on that list inviting the person to join Storm.
In the meantime, a profile page is also automatically created as a placeholder until the individual actually joins Storm. Once that person registers with Storm they can then put whatever information they want onto their profile, nobody else ever has access altering it.
This gets back to the point I’ve made before, which is that the purpose of Storm is to be a mass database of membership contact information.
A Chairman uploads the list they currently have, other members sign up and add their data, then you have an automated, constantly-appending, membership list that a Chairman (current or future) can access with the click of a button.
I don’t see the harm or foul, Tim.

I had several chapter chairs that had multiple accounts because they did not know they were already signed up and created a new account. I’m sure my state wasn’t unique, the numbers are definitely inflated.

If they’d used the email address they’d supplied originally, there wouldn’t be any duplication.
Sure, it leads to duplicate contact information on the list, but it’s pretty easy to correct manually. Besides, if you have an email address that someone doesn’t use anymore, wouldn’t you want to know what the new one is?
To make it clear, I’m not a big fan of Storm and would have preferred something different. However, Storm is what we’ve got and it’s up to all of us to use it the best we can.

The only accounts that were created were the ones for chapter chairman to get the initial round of chapters set up, and myself and the rest of the state chairman at that time were the ones who supplied those names and emails. If there was a problem, it was because you didn’t keep a good list of your chapter chairman.

So if STORM’s purpose is to build a database of contact information, why didn’t the CRNC just tell each chapter to send them an Excel sheet with info on their members?
Guess how much that would have cost? … $0
