Songs and the Presidential Candidates
By windstone | May 3, 2008
On a lighter note, I am wondering what kind of songs do you think describe the presidential candidates? Here are my suggestions for the Democrats:
Barack Obama
“Pocketful of Sunshine” by Natasha Bettingfield. I heard this on American Idol. How utopian can you get? The lyrics certainly fit the nirvana feeling his supporters feel. Creepy? Oh yeah.
“Cult of Personality” Living Colour. Of course. This song fits right in with the “Obama Messiah” motif. I feel as if we’ve been here before…
“I Love You, I Want You, I Need You” by Elvis. Screaming girls for both-but Elvis could actually dance and had the good sense not to get too political. Not so much for Barack Obama.
“Where is the Love” by the Black Eyed Peas. Comparing the CIA to the KKK? Sounds like a job for Rev. Jeremiah Wright to me. Song fits the “America is falling apart” theme.
“Close to You” by the Carpenters. Hey, flowery rhetoric about heaven? According to deluded supporters, Barack Obama is the Good Lord’s gift to politics.
Hillary Clinton
“If You Don’t Know Me by Now” by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. Hurt by Democratic caucus-goers, Hillary moans about her treatment. She’s hurt, man, she’s hurt.
“Cold,Cold Heart” by Hank Williams. I’m surprised ol’ Hank didn’t have Hillary in mind when he penned this one. Bill may have sang this to her a decade ago. Now she sings it to fellow Democrats.
“Heart of Glass” by Blondie. Similar to above. The Ice Queen tries to open up,no?
“I Guess That Why They Call It the Blues” by Elton John. She felt those when Obama was winning all of the time. The superdelegates have been treatin’ her wrong along these lines, she thinks.
“I Want You to Need Me” by Celine Dion. Please vote for me. PLEEEAASE! But which one of the two is more annoying: Celine or Hillary?
Send us your suggestions by commenting. Also, send suggestions for Senator McCain(Johnny B. Goode is obvious-think positive and descriptive).
