MT CRs running for state house

By punch bowl | May 8, 2008

Three University of Montana College Republicans are running for state house.

Jedediah Cox is running in House District 99 against incumbent Betsy Hands; Steve Dogiakos is running in House District 93 (which includes UM) against retired economics professor Richard Barrett; and Dan Stusek is running in House District 92 against incumbent Robin Hamilton.

All three districts are Democratic leaning.

Scott Martin, the president of the College Democrats said the only reason they are running is to fill vacant positions that the Montana Republican Party couldn’t fill.

According to a Montana newspaper, so far, Cox has raised $1,500, Dogiakos has raised $400 and Stusek has raised $250.

Why doesn’t the CRNC start a PAC to encourage more CRs to run for local and state offices? I think it’s a shame that we don’t have a PAC to help these young candidates.

Because the CRNC is more concerned with spending money on parties and things like S.T.O.R.M.

CRs could actually “make a difference” if they have a mechanism to support local CRs running for local offices - you know the positions nobody ever wants and the politicians who generally run unopposed. These may not be glamorous positions, but they are a great start for aspiring politicos.
