Peters forced to resign or take leave of absence
By punch bowl | May 13, 2008
If you recall, Gary Peters is a professor at Central Michigan University (CMU), who is challenging Congressman Joe Knollenberg (R-Oakland County).
Conservative student activist Dennis Lennox has been running a grassroots campaign against Peters. Lennox believes that Peters is violating the terms of his contract by campaigning while a professor.
In a press release to CR Nation, the Students Against Gary Peters group stated that:
A full-time temporary assistant professor of political science, Peters has been a controversial hire for CMU because he is running despite a contractual obligation to give his “full-time … primary commitment” through the 2009/10 school year.
The group further stated that:
After abusing the trust of taxpayers and sacrificing the education of students for nearly a year, Democratic congressional candidate Gary Peters is being forced out of his professorship at Central Michigan University.
Peters will be subjected to a new CMU policy requiring professors running for office to resign or take a leave of absence 60 days before an election. In Peters’ case, the primary election is August 5.
After learning of the new policy, the group’s leader, Dennis Lennox, had this to say:
CMU is finally doing the right thing and holding Gary Peters accountable. This is a victory for the hundreds of students, alumni and legislators who wanted Gary Peters to pick between Congress and campus.
Furthermore, the press release state that CMU sources indicate the policy is a result of the Petersgate controversy.

I once desired to take Dennis Lennox seriously, but then I looked at a picture of him and started laughing.
In all seriousness though, this whole Gary Peters “controversy” was quite ridiculous. Instead of being like most students and going to class, spending time studying, and hoping to get a good education, Lennox is wasting his time attacking a professor for political reasons.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Dennis Lennox is a spoiled-brat who can’t do anything else in life so he’s turned to what he calls “politicking.” It’s really sad and pathetic.
CRs should stay away from this guy (not to mention the fact that he’s another YAF nutcase like his buddy Kyle Bristow).

Tim doesn’t speak for every other Tim. My name is Tim and I went to school with Dennis at CMU (I graduated in December).
Dennis is a great voice for the Right. He has done far more for Republicans, Conservatives, and our cause than most other college students. It’s too bad people like this Tim guy feel the need to attack him. I’m not surprised though because I see Tim on this Web site quite a bit. He likes to attack productive young Republicans a lot. I think he is incredibly resentful of others because he probably has no life whatsoever and has never did anything at all. I bet he sits in his boxers in a basement, typing away and surfing the net with nothing else to do.

If you join CRs because its fun, or because you want to work in politics later, then that is great. However, I get tired of people who think that they’re “crusaders saving Western Civilization” and those who talk about others “furthering our cause” and “doing so much for the conservative movement.”
I’m sure you think Dennis is doing more for your cause than other college students, but what effect has he really had? Planing shenanigans with Peters and protesting with YAF people has changed absolutely nothing. You might point out that Peters has lost his job, but that doesn’t change anything. People will continue to vote for whatever party they support, political issues will remain the same, and the only thing that will have changed is Dennis is older. Besides a small group of people, nobody really cares about Gary Peters or the fact that he was employed by CMU.
I hope I’m being clear, but what I’m trying to say is that everything Dennis is engaged in is very petty. People so often think holding up a piece of oak tag with a protest slogan or harassing a leftist professor makes a difference, but it does not.
If you want to make a difference, go contribute to society. Go become successful in your career and then start getting involved in politics once you have credibility. Go do something for those less fortunate. Make a difference in whatever area you care about, but do something worthwhile instead of engaging in petty activism that means nothing and changes nothing.
My main problem with Dennis, however, is the way he conducts himself. He’s a spoiled brat who thinks that his current actions make him better than other people. He’s the stereotypical kid who has had everything given to him and is completely worthless to society. He has nothing to contribute and never will.
