Former CR loses state house bid
By punch bowl | May 27, 2008
CR Nation has been informed via e-mail that former Arkansas College Republican Brett Hooten has lost his bid to be the next state representative for Arkansas district 29.
A local newspaper reports that in the primary election taking place last Tuesday, Hooten lost to Ann Clemmer by a count of 1,208 to 697.
Mrs. Clemmer is the president of the Saline County Republican Women and is a political science instructor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Mr. Hooten ran as a fiscal and social conservative. When asked about his experience Hooten said:
I wish I had more votes. [This campaign]…made me a better part of the community. We were able to bring out issues … that can continue to be talked about. I’m happy with the effort.
When asked about whether he will seek political office again, Mr. Hootten stated:
I’m getting married in June. After that, we’ll see what happens … I think if I decide to do it again, I’ll start with a good base of support.
We’re sorry for Mr. Hooten’s loss. We hope he seeks political office again and is met with success.
Also, we would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Mr. Hooten for his engagement and upcoming wedding. We wish Mr. Hooten much happiness with his future wife.
