RNC on Franken
By sage of monticello | May 28, 2008
The message is clear: Franken can’t be trusted. But I wonder if this message is getting any play? For several reasons my guess is “no”.
First, people don’t trust Republicans. In the eyes of the voter, how effective is an untrustworthy Party calling a candidate of the other Party untrustworthy. Republicans won’t win with a “ain’t that the pot calling the kettle black” message.
Second, even if Republicans were trustworthy in the minds of likely MN voters, in a Democratic leaning state in a likely Democratic year most MN votes will likely file this attack away as a “Republican ploy.”
Lastly, negative campaigning is often an indicator that a positive message is not gaining traction. If the positive message isn’t getting play, what makes one believe that a negative message will?
Our best thoughts come from you, so let us know what you think. In this case, especially if you are a MN CR.
