Going green

By sage of monticello | June 26, 2008

The Democrats have oulawed fried food at their 2008 convention in Denver as part of their efforts to “go green”.

Here is what one Democrat had to say:

…this is EXACTLY why my beloved Democratic Party loses elections. The various factions that make up our party spend so much time trying to ensure that each one of their core principles is thrust upon Americans with little or no choice. After all ‘we’ know ‘better.’ … this information only adds to the perception that Democrats care more about engineering society in a politically correct fashion, than we do about helping working families put food on the table … God help me when I put on my delegate credentials in Denver…

Here is what Republican radio host Glen Beck had to say:

This is what these people [democrats] are worried about? How much are you paying for gas? This is what they’re worried about, whether their fanny packs come from organic cotton?

I doubt Glen Beck classifies himself as a Republican. Probably calls himself a conservative.

This is just another example of many why liberals shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce!! Out of all the things that need fixing… not serving fried food at convention is the only solution they could come up with. Come on! Are you kidding me? That’s just retarded!!

    @ the above poster

Come on now, don’t be an idiot. Do you honestly think they sat down and brainstormed problems to fix, only to come up with fried food? Of course not. All they’re trying to do is set an example. It’s not like that’s their singular agenda for the next year. It’s just something going on at the convention.

I believe we must reflect our values on ourselves.

I don’t think any of us deny that eating healthier could do a lot of good things for our country.

The point I’ve seen made here is “good for you, but there’s bigger problems to be addressed.”

We need to think about that in the Republican agenda as well. For example, ear mark reform would be nice, but even the most efficient earmark reform would not come close to fixing federal budget problems and wasteful spending. So why do some of our Republican Congressmen and Senators continue to hammer earmark reform while hardly talking about bigger problems, such as deficit spending, horrid government programs, and entitlement reform? Are we pandering too?

Our leaders should be informing citizens of the big issues and re-framing political debate to true conservative values that resignate in most Americans.
