CRNC: Vegas Update II

By punch bowl | November 24, 2008

On Saturday night, the Michigan College Republicans threw a party. As the rumor goes, Pete Vitale was the host. Mr. Vitale is Justin Zatkoff’s right hand man in Michigan.

But this just wasn’t any old party. I am told the party was held in one of the penthouse suites at the Bellagio, the filming location of the movie Ocean’s 11.

As the story goes, the Bellagio gave Mr. Vitale the room without cost after Mr. Vitale lost $18,000 at a Bellagio owned casino in Michigan. Rumors abound that Mr. Vitale will be the next chair in Michigan and has national ambitions past CRNC Election 2009.

All potential candidates attended the party: Charlie Smith, Zach Howell and Ben Johnson, each working the room, but some more effectively than others…

The last little bit of scuttlebutt is that there were meetings all weekend regarding the CRNC Election. More to come on the scoop from those meetings. Check back often.

So, supposedly Ben Johnson has done a complete 180 on PA Chairman Anthony Pugliese. He is not a fan……any idea why? Did Pugliese tell him he wasn’t going to support him for National Chair?

I say Pugliese is running himself - I’d support him!

Michigan is a joke. There were no state federation-coordinated CR activities anywhere in Michigan this year. Justin Zatkoff, the chair, was fired by the Michigan Republican Party. Pete Vitale is a joke. Who paid for the party? Isn’t there some legal reporting requirement?

^^^^ I imagine you were too busy “LOL”ing to make it to the resolution weekends, eh?

Pete when you are going to announce?
Zatkoff is a joke and you are part of his “legacy”

Glad to see Harry Awdey is campaigning hard in Macomb.

Hey guys, Anthony is one of my close personal friends. I have nothing but respect for him. Please check the personal non-sense at the door.

Pete Vitale lost $18,000 of his own money gambling?

    Holy hell.

I’d love to see Pugliese make a run for it - he’s not as well-known, because he keeps his head down and works his ass off.

Pete Vitale blew $18,000 in a casino?

Holy hell. I understand that it was his own money, but I’m damned if I want someone that stupid anywhere near the CRNC’s budget.

Bull crap. When was the last MFCR meeting? When was the last event? There was nothing. Hell, the “four” CRNC field representatives were only seen in Ann Arbor with Justin Zatkoff. You guys were a joke. The only CR activity this year was the Michigan Republican Party’s “Brain Drain Weekends” which were organized by Ferris State chapter chair Robbie Rankey.

Benny, that’s not a denial that he told you he’s not supporting you. Perhaps he will run????????

I want to thank those of you who have stated their support for me over this past week or so. As for me running for something it is still up in the air and I haven’t made a decision yet. Like many college students, I am still trying to figure out what my next move will be and what my future may look like.

Right now I am still the Chairman of the PA College Republicans and that is my main focus. I am proud that we are the largest Federation in the country and I plan on working hard to continue growing. We have around 65 to 70 chapters and I simply want to ask the questions, where do we still not have chapters and how can we fix that. Since the end of the election we have already started 2 more chapters and I plan on starting hopefully 10 to 15 more before my term ends in March.

On a side note, Ben Johnson is a great guy and him and I are good friends, so the speculation that we are at odds is completely false. In fact, when we saw the comment we talked and got a nice laugh over it.

Thanks and keep fighting the good fight.
    Anthony Pugliese

It’s refreshing to see a potential candidate actually be one hundred percent upfront and honest about his plans, thanks Anthony!

Pugliese: Stay out of the race. You will if you know what’s best for you.
