Forgot in the post earlier to mention the fate of the constitutional amendments. In short, they all passed by wide margins. If the support was not unanimous, the opposition was at most one or two votes. The budget passed unanimously.
Also, I would like to recap what states chairs who attended the Vegas Board meeting. Going from west to east (as best I can), the state chairs in attendance were:
Cheyenne Steel, CA
Matt Wharton, AZ
Ed Cox, UT
Jim Bailey, NM
Datyon Headlee, NE
Lance Kennedy, TX
Rudy Perciful, LA
Jeremy Hagen, MO
Greg Baker, IA
Bethany Dorobiala, MN
Sol Grosskopf, WI
Meagan Szydlowski, IL
Jacob Simms, KY
Jared Anderson, TN
Chandler Harris, AL
Harout Samra, FL
Esther Clark, GA
Justin Zatkoff, MI
Jonathan Snyder, OH
Anthony Pugliese, PA
Emily Taylor, DE
Terance Grado, NJ
Jason Gould, CT
Brendan Boyle, RI
Alex Willette, ME
A few more need to be added to the list…
Brand Kroeger, DC
Alex Olympidis, IN
Laura Mengelkamp, WY
If I forgot anybody, please feel free to comment or send me an e-mail (crnation@gmail.com)
All CRNC national officers were in attendance.

I’m glad to see that Jared Anderson from TN actually showed up. At least he attends national events if he does nothing in his own state.
Jim Bailey is the new New Mexico CR Chairman. I had the pleasure of rooming with Jim, and he looks to have the potential to do the types of things in NM that we saw Brian Dayton do in West Virginia. Jim is a freshman who worked with the NM GOP and their Victory efforts this fall. He’s only been on the job for a week, and the learning curve is steep, but he may bring stability to CRs in New Mexico.
Wow, Nevada’s chair didn’t show up? A little embarassing, for Nevada that is.
Wait a minute. If this count is accurate, that means something like 22 federation chairs did not attend. Did they even have quorum?
I can’t believe Justin Zatkoff was there. He hasn’t done a single thing as Michigan chairman. There were no CR activities during the election. To make matters worse, Zatkoff was fired by the Michigan Republican Party.
23 weren’t there
but there was a quorum (51+8 officers = 59, making 30 a quorum)
so 28 chairs and 8 officers showed up = 36
After an election defeat, we decide to go out and play inter-party politics…this is the kind of thing that makes us look less serious than we really are as an organization.couldn’t we have gone to a less costly place besides a Vegas Resort? This money could have gone directly to the states to help with election efforts and we could have done somthing smaller-scale…Although I see the need for good relationships, i’m somewhat glad my state chair didnt go this weekend. I’m not interested in any candidate who doesnt pledge to stop fiscal irresponsibility and maybe institute some kind of crnc-state revenue sharing plan
fmr. state chairman:
Very convincing critique of the CRNC. And the critism of the current administration was tasteful and statesman-like. Thank you. You’d convince me to concur.
I’d just like to point out two things.
“fmr. state chairman”: it’s intra-party.
“Bravo”: it’s criticism.
Since I’d prefer to think there aren’t two people this stupid in the world, it means the same person complimented himself a few hours later.
Thanks for correcting grammer and word choice so early this morning…but this is just another classic example of trying to bring people down instead of talking about important issues. THis kind of thing makes us look immature and hurts CRs. We need to be discussing fiscal responsibility and fundraising, how to make STORM more effective without sinking more money into it, how to have more regional events so that states can work together in 2010, and some type of crnc-state revenue sharing program that keeps the CRNC and states out of the same donor pool.
please feel free to correct any spelling errors as well…haha
A great ticket would be:
Charlie Smith with Ben Johnson as co-chair???,
Bethany Dorobiala at Sec. and Zach Howell at Treasurer would be interesting
I’d put Hagen (MO) as midwest chair, Cox (UT) or Hrizuk (OR) out west, and Pugilese (PA) in the NE. For the South i’d either get Tyson Grinstead (still NC???) or Chandler Harris (AL) —they all seem competent and semi-well respected
- of course I wasn’t at the meeting and doubt all these people could set aside their egos to work together, but if they could this would be a great team in my opinion
What happened to Rhode Island’s Ryan Bilodeau?
Some combination of Charlie Smith, Ben Johnson, or Zach Howell would be great at Chairman and Co Chair.
Bethany Dorobiala is a very good choice for another top position or Midwest. Hagen is also a good choice and Meagan Szydlowski (IL) is another one. Greg Baker (Iowa) seems to also be well liked.
In the Northeast, obviously, Pugilese is a solid choice. Brand Kroeger (DC) is a likeable personality that has done a good job and Alex Willette (Maine) is effective. Boyle (RI) is a dark horse in that bunch.
The South is interesting. I don’t know if Esther Clark (GA) and Tommy Jardin (FL) plan on staying around but they have done a decent job in the past. Chandler Harris (AL)and Rudy Perciful (LA) are very good chairmen and Jacob Sims (KY) is very well liked in the group but probably too young. I was surprised not to see Daniel Swanson (OK) in the mix since he was such a good chairman.
In the West, Ed Cox (UT), Reece Hrizuk (OR), Erica Castello (CO), and Cheyenne Steel (CA) are likely.
Thats a good mix, Smith and Johnson working together would be better than having them fight over it (so long as they have a good platform). I’d take Pugilese in the NE, Cox in the west, Dorobiala in the midwest. Grinstead is not in NC anymore, he’s in SC now or so facebook says, but he or Swanson were both good chairmen and good choices in the South
Isn’t Jardon froM Florida gay?
“Meagan Szydlowski (IL) is another one”
Seriously? She may look appealing on the national front, but she hasn’t done one single in Illinois. When’s the last time their website was updated, February? And that was encouraging CRs to get involved in the special election, but how about during this past election?
How many CRs did Meagan Szydlowski export into IN or MO for this election? If Meagan Szydlowski or anyone that knows anything going on here could drop some info, that’d be great as none of us know what is going on.
Kennedy from Texas looks like an interesting pick. Granted he has little exposure on the national scene, but his record seems pretty sound. He’s def one to watch.
Charlie, did you ever bother to think about who the AAA might put in charge of arbitrating our elections if somebody invoked that rule? I think the arbitrator will be some part-time college student making $10.25 an hour, who just recently graduated high school and probably is a member of the “Bush’s last day in office” event group on Facebook. You need to think about this stuff and un-amend that amendment.
Patrick Binning ran the Illinois CRs into the ground and Megan is doing her best to fix his mess.
Okay, so what exactly has Megan done to fix the mess that was left? What specifically did she do to motivate Illinois troops to help in elections?
Wasn’t Szydlowski a field rep this fall? Was she a state chair at the same time?

Kennedy hasn’t done anything, he’s only been an officer for his club for 3 months, never anything above PR Director.
“Kennedy from Texas looks like an interesting pick. Granted he has little exposure on the national scene, but his record seems pretty sound. He’s def one to watch.”
What record? He’s been State Chair for less than a month. Plus, the only position he had with CR before that was PR Chair for UT for a couple months this school year until he resigned.
Yes, he has a sound record.
If Amy Volz is President of NMSU CRs and Heather Hall is President of the UNM CRs, where did Jim Bailey come from?!?
He was not elected by us! Someone’s got some explaining to do!
I’m sure Kennedy is a great guy, but for the south, we have to have someone with experience. The more I think about it, I like Tyson Grinstead, the former chairman from NC or Daniel Swanson from OK. Those guys have good judgement and more experience than anyone else except people already in national office. I think I slightly favor Tyson over Daniel, just because he goes to school in South Carolina now and would probably have knowledge of two states. Thoughts?
Um, Mr. Reagan, Bailey is a STATE chair, not a chapter chair. I think thats the confusion.
And no, Mary was a Regional Director in charge of the Field Reps in the South.
I have heard that Daniel Swanson has decided not to run again despite the unanimous desire among the state board that he seek another term. He has said he is pursuing other goals, and he also has to leave the state for military officer training stuff. His Vice Chairman Connor Ferguson is the odds on favorite to replace him.
well since Daniel most likly wouldn’t do it, then the logical choice for either Charlie/Ben/whoever for the south is Tyson, the past chair of NC.
TX-
You’re right. Bailey is being recognized as State Chair but was not duly elected by either CR Chapter in New Mexico. He has not been ratified by these organizations either. So, what I am saying is you have a rogue Chairman in New Mexico who is claiming to lead a group that has not recognized him as the leader.
You know what I mean?
I understand- I thought you simply had his role mixed up, no worries, sorry for the confusion!
