In Iowa, Dane Nealson and Matt Sexton were unanimously elected as the next Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively of the Iowa Federation of College Republicans on Saturday.
Nealson who is a junior at Iowa State, along with his running mate Matt Sexton a freshman at UNI.
Facing opposition, Mr. Nealson and Mr. Sexton campaigned for “several months outlasting a group of potential challengers while stopping at most of the College Republican chapters throughout the state.”
In North Carolina, convention was held in Winston-Salem, NC. Speakers included Senator Richard Burr, Rep. Virginia Foxx, Fmr. Raleigh Mayor Tom Fetzer, Caitlin McDonnell (daughter of VA gubernatorial candidate Bob McDonnell) and Fox News contributor S.E. Cupp.
The new officers in N.C. are:
Ben Lynch (Wake Forest), Chairman
Jason Sutton (UNC- Chapel Hill), Co-Chairman
Stephen Barkley, (UNC-Greensboro), Executive Vice Chairman
Bethany Hudson (UNC- Wilmington), Administrative Vice Chairman
Amber Lankford (Salem College), Sec.
Nick Oschner (Elon University), Treasurer
In Florida, the new executive board is as follows:
Chairman: Justin York (University of Central Florida)

Mr. York Justin was the First Vice-Chairman during the previous administration. Bryan Griffin (of the University of Florida) was also appointed Executive Director.
Lastly, CRNC Chair candidate Zach Howell attended Florida’s convention. On that topic, a reader writes:
I should also mention that Zach Howell addressed the convention. He made a great impression on the Florida CRs who were there.

As a TeenAge Republican who attneded the Florida CR convention, Mr Howell was an inspiring, knowledgeable, and exciting person to listen and interact with. I feel comfortable knowing that he is the next potential leader for collge republicans nationwide!!
Chris Johnson is from the University of Miami (I’m sad to say…)
A source from NC said that helping McDonnell in the VA election was going to be one priority for NC CRs next year…glad to see this interstate cooperation from them…thats the kind of leadership we need to see in the future and from all CRs
I enjoyed the North Carolina Federation of College Republicans (NCFCR) conference in Winston-Salem this year. It was the first CR conference for me, but it was an excellent use of time; I learned a lot and met many dedicated, renowned conservatives. An archetypal message among speakers is that we, as conservatives, should not abandon our core values for short-term vote gains — instead we must refocus on sticking to our century old core values. It is not that Americans want a different conservative party; they want the conservative party to follow its core values, no more deviation.
I am excited about the new chairperson, Ben Lynch, who has many great ideas for the NCFCR. He is motivated and will be pushed by NCFCR members to accomplish the goals he has envisioned. We have a great year ahead!
I want to congratulate the new leaders of the NCFCR. Ben will be an excellent representative for the future of our organization.
Our future is bright in N.C. and we have huge goals that we will achieve over the course of the year.
Good luck to all CR organizations.
NC has had some strong leadership in recent years from Tyson Grinstead to Tasher and now Lynch. I’d love to see any of those guys on Howell’s ticket, especially Tyson.
This was my first NCFCR State Convention and I am so glad that I was able to attend. The speakers were relevant and inspiring. Throughout every discussion, I was challenged to step up now, to not sit around and wait for someone else to clean up this mess. We must return to our conservative roots instead of compromising our ideals and values because that is what put us in the minority of our government system.
As a member of the executive board at Salem College, I am looking forward to the efforts of Ben Lynch, Jason Sutton, and the rest of the new NCFCR leadership to increase communication between chapters. Each of our federated schools has something unique to offer and the more we can work together, the bigger and better things we can accomplish. They have recognized that the easiest way for our party to resume its former glory is for College and young Republicans to make their greatest contributions yet.
As a first time attendee of the NCFCR conference in Winston-Salem this year, I found the meeting very thought provoking. The Republican party needs to adhere to its conservative roots, while pressing forward to meet the unique needs of the 21st century. Benjamin Lynch, our new chairperson, shows vision, hard work and leadership to help our organization contribute in a meaningful way on college campuses throughout NC and nationwide.
We are all so excited to have Ben Lynch as NCFCR chair. I know the new officers will do an excellent job.

I was only able to attend the NCFCR conference dinner on the first night but it was great; the speakers were wonderful and were really encouraging to us as young Republicans. I’m looking forward to attending more NCFCR conventions in the future, especially with our new chairmen Benjamin Lynch and Jason Sutton. Both are great guys for the job.
