Liberty University bans College Democrats

The university founded by Jerry Falwell has banned the College Democrats, and liberals are up in arms. From the Lynchburg paper:

Liberty University has revoked its recognition of the campus Democratic Party club, saying “we are unable to lend support to a club whose parent organization stands against the moral principles held by” the university….

Part of [vice president for student affairs Mark] Hine’s e-mail said, “The Democratic Party platform is contrary to the mission of Liberty University and to Christian doctrine (supports abortion, federal funding of abortion, advocates repeal of the federal Defense of Marriage Act, promotes the “LGBT” agenda, hate crimes, which include sexual orientation and gender identity, socialism, etc.)”

The College Republican group was not banned.

McGrath resigns

John McGrath has resigned as the Chairman of the New York College Republicans per an email sent to CR Nation and the New York College Republican state board.

If you remember, Mr. McGrath was embroiled in controversy when he, as some say, improperly, maliciously and cowardly wrote and distributed a press release to the national media essentially indicting the CRNC for the actions of Ashley Todd, who carved a “B” into her face and who then was a CRNC field rep in New York.

I’m sure he won’t be missed by many.

Here is the email:

To the NYCRSC State Board:

For the past 4 years I have enjoyed working with College Republicans throughout New York State. I have learned a lot and met many friends.

It is now time for me to move on to other things so as of today May 21, 2009 I hereby resign as New York College Republican State Committee Chairman.

I wish the best of luck to Sandra Amidon, who will be taking over as acting Chairman effective immediately as well as the rest of the E-Board.

Sincerely,

John J. McGrath

Smith attacks Dems energy plan

I enjoy reading the CRNC’s emails sent by Charlie Smith and others. They make me feel proud to be a College Republican. Here is Mr. Smith’s latest attacking the Democrats’ energy plan:

Read his lips: Barack Obama promised not to raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 a year. Yet, “cap and trade could cost the average household more than $3,900 per year (Hot Air).”

Do you have $3,900 extra a year to spend on a non-workable solution to a dubious problem that may or may not have a negative impact on the planet a 100 years from now? Does it make sense to make such a major sacrifice to deal with global warming when the planet hasn’t actually warmed since 1998 and instead seems to be in a cooling phase?

Are we willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of American jobs each year on a risky cap and trade scheme while businesses in nations like China and India aren’t hit with the same extreme restrictions?

If you oppose the Democrats’ energy tax, help us fight back by making a $5 contribution today.

Many European nations aren’t even living up to the milder restrictions they agreed to under the Kyoto Protocol, so why are we planning to tear the guts out of the US economy with a cap and trade plan? The cap and trade system hasn’t made a significant dent in the amount of greenhouse gasses produced anywhere else it has been tried.

Additionally, since when does the American government work to make the cost of gas – which serves to keep your family comfortable in your own home – more expensive?

When did catering to environmental extremists become a higher priority than improving the lives of American families? Since the Democratic Party gained control of Washington.

Politicians should be trying to make energy more affordable for Americans, not working to kill American jobs, drive American businesses overseas, and take thousands of dollars out of the pockets of working families each year.

That’s why people who want to improve the lives of average Americans oppose President Obama’s cap and trade plan, which would be the largest tax increase in our nation’s history.

Sincerely,

Charlie Smith
National Chairman
College Republican National Committee

P.S. Help the College Republicans fight back against the Democrats’ energy tax, contribute $5 today!

The candidates are:

1. Chris Shipp
2. Chasen Bullock
3. Leigh Wolf

Videos were made for the contest by each candidate. In my opinion, Chasen’s video is cooler, but I like that Chris recognized that successfully running a CR organization is a team effort, plus you gotta love the country music at the end of his video!

Best of luck to all the candidates.
