CCR announces Internship Program in press release to CR Nation:
The California College Republicans (CCR) is proud to announce the launch of their statewide Legislative and Congressional Internship Program. CCR is committed to helping conservative college students find internships to build upon prior experience, providing them with the opportunity to hone their skills in a professional political environment.
“I’m told quite often that there are more jobs available than qualified applicants,” said California College Republicans Chairman Michael Antonopoulos. “That is why we believe our organization can serve as a bridge for students seeking careers and job experience in the political realm.”
The CCR Internship Program will serve as a means for College Republicans to connect with elected officials near their home, school
or work. Those interested in internships can forward their resumes to the state organization and have them distributed to the appropriate contacts in legislative offices, providing elected officials with immediate access to qualified applicants in their respective districts. For more information on the Internship Program, please contact Clinton Soffer at Clinton.Soffer@CollegeGOP.org.
Why don’t more states do something like this? More importantly, why doesn’t the CRNC do something like this?

Michigan runs a similar internship program.

This seems like something simple, but often neglected. I bet a program like this will have a big positive impact for CRs and for California’s elected officials.
We aren’t even half way through the summer and the new California team is already paving the way for an extremely successful year! Great initiative from excellent College Republican leaders!
With leaders like Howell and Hagen at the top, and Vice-Chairs like Antonopoulos (who created this program) I’m sure we will see successful programs like this soon enough. Don’t forget, Antonopoulos had a few weeks head start in California, give these guys time and I’m sure we’ll get great results.
kind of like someone stated above, many states either have a similar program or get out the message about internships in some way – it just doesn’t get plastered on crnation…just because you don’t see it on crnation, or just because not everyone goes around promoting their state to outsiders (usually promoting their self really), that doesn’t mean that nothing is going on
it seems as though people on here sometimes reason that if they don’t hear a tree fall in a forest that they’re not in, then a tree must not have fallen and people in that forest must not be working…that my friends is a fallacy
and following that, it’s as though if they hear a lot from a forest they’re not in, then either a lot of work must be going on in that forest or more work must be going on in that forest than the ones they hear less from – again, faulty reasoning that plagues some us…the humble don’t fare well with these faulty rationales
Bitter much? I don’t really see why this required any negativity.
Announcing and publicizing things like this actually have positive results outside of self-promotion, and maybe those quite hardworking CRs should take some notes.
If you forget about trees for a second you’ll realize that while a lot of states might have programs like this there are also a good number who do not. Now those states who did not know about this program before might be able to start something like it, Virginia (mentioned in the following post) for example, as opposed to those quite states who keep all their good ideas private.
Publicizing is actually a good portion of our work as College Republicans. Spreading information about things like this gets people motivated and interested, reaches out to people who might have otherwise brushed CRs off, extends and increases donations, and generally combats the idea that young Republicans are inactive or nonexistent.
In a few months, a year, or two you probably won’t remember the names mentioned in this press release or in those comments, but I bet the increase in donations, membership, interest, and especially internships will have a prolonged positive affect because people actually knew what was going on.
