Congress

Not Maybe It Was Memphis

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

I don’t usually defend Democratic congressmen, but Rep. Steve Cohen is the target of an anti-Semetic ad and flyer from a primary opponent. This should be condemned-the woman running half-heartedly did so. Between this and Senator Obama’s I supported Israel before I opposed it stance, apparently our party is the only one left who represents the […]

Congressional approval ratings hit record low

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

…and while Democrats are in charge.
A new Rasmussen poll shows that the Democrat-controlled Congress’s approval rating now stands at 9% for the first time in history.
Rasmussen goes on to note, “Most voters (52%) say Congress is doing a poor job, which ties the record high in that dubious category.”
I wonder if this has anything to […]

The Gas Price Reduction Act of 2008

I received the below e-mail from Mitch McConnell’s office:
We’re in the middle of a long series of votes here on amendments to the budget, but I thought you might interested in some highlights of what has happened so far.
The Senate passed the Baucus amendment, which calls for the extension of only certain parts of the […]

Its all about the benjamins…

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Charles Rangel, New York Democrat and Chair of the powerful House Ways and Means committee, has long planned a “mother” of all tax reforms, the base of which would be the elimination of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) - a tax meant to ensure that the rich didn’t avoid paying taxes by abusing charitable tax […]

Congressional approval ratings unchanged, remain miserable

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

According to the latest Gallup poll, just 23% of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing (or not doing, as is the case with the “do-nothing” Democratic 110th Congress).
Gallup writes:
Congressional job approval is essentially the same as it was last month but slightly higher than the 18% reading in August, which matched a […]
