Sorry for the really long break-travel and the election have kept me busy in the Heartland. But have you noticed Governor Palin’s critics? No, not the Daily Kos crowd or even the ostensibly more reasoned The New Republic.
David Brooks and Mike Murphy dismissed Governor Palin first. There was Christopher Buckley and Colin Powell’s endorsement. Then Peggy Noonan and Mark Krikorian resort to snottiness when talking about Governor Palin(would you rather have a vice president who drops G’s or who will work to expand the size of government-Hmm…). Krikorian doesn’t realize McCain would face revolt if he backed out of border first and she was talking to Univision! Let’s think about the source she’s talking to. Governor Palin would please those of us who oppose illegal immigration, make no bones about it based on her dedication for preserving the rule of law.
Anyway, Daniel Henninger, Tony Blankely, and the Maha Rushie(Rush Hudson Limbaugh III) have more on the story. As Charlie Brown would say, Good grief.
David Bass at The American Spectator makes the case. Hmm… charming young conservative governor who is the son of Indian immigrants? You Dems can have Barack Obama-we want Bobby Jindal for keynote speaker!
Brian Fitzpatrick over at Human Events calls The Dark Knight “pornography of violence.”Batman has also been compared to George W. Bush and Rudy Giuliani. You can decide on the latter, but the former claim is balderdash. Batman tries to save the innocent in the film and is faced into grave moral choices. As for the violence claim, evil does not come in sunshine and lollipops. If we used Kirkpatrick’s arguments about violence in film, Patton and Saving Private Ryan would be unacceptable for displaying graphic images, regardless of their messages. I mean, if good must make tough choices when combating evil, we had better not show it. This movie is conservative because it rejects moral relativism of the Left and shows a character willing to take the burden of leadership on behalf of truth.
Dan McLaughlin spells out why Barack Obama is no Ronald Reagan. This leads to a couple of questions.
1. Why would the Obama folks want their man to be compared to the Gipper if Reagan wasn’t a great president(remember, the Left went crazy when Obama said nice things about Ronald Reagan)?
2. Why would you compare John McCain to Jimmy Carter if the former president is a respected member of your party who supports your campaign?
That’s another thing-John McCain is no Jimmy Carter. A respected Senator with deep foreign-policy experience versus a one-term governor who trusts dictators is quite a contrast.

First William F. Buckley Jr. Then Tim Russert. Tony Snow lost his courageous battle with cancer. Now this. Only the Lord knows why 2008 is going this way.
